Faith Regen has been shortlisted by the People’s Project for the London area. Our project is to deliver free self defence services to 300 women in London who have been affected by domestic abuse or feel at risk of violence against women or girls (VAWG) or hate crime. If we win 300 women will be able to protect themselves and their children. If we lose, 300 women will lose out on essential self defence services that will improve their physical and mental health, improve their self-confidence and empower them to do amazing things in life.

1 in 4 women will experience #domesticabuse. Turn around and if the woman next to you hasn’t experienced it, she will definitely know someone who has. It could be you, a mother, a sister, a cousin, a friend or an acquaintance.
The Guardian reported on 27th February 2019 that #domesticabuse has risen 63% in 7 years. The #Metoo movement awakened the voices of millions of women across the globe on having been sexually assaulted. The conversation has NOT ended.
Every month, seven women are murdered by a current or former partner in Wales and England (Safelives 2017). The total female fatality rate is much higher as it is estimated that 3 women a week take their own lives, and a further 30 attempt suicide every day, both as a consequence of domestic abuse. (Walby and Allen 2004).
Domestic Abuse is one of the most under reported crimes in the UK and many women suffer in silence for years before seeking professional help. Our project is designed to improve women’s confidence, social network and well being while learning techniques to defend themselves from physical assault. We empower women to reach out to seek help when they need it and inform them of the support available to keep themselves and their children safe.
Faith Regen Foundation’s project WOMEN IN ACTION (WinAc) is making a real change in UK society by rolling out free self-defence classes for women who are at-risk of domestic abuse, sexual harm and rape and at risk of hate-crime. As of today Faith Regen has given free self-defence classes to hundreds of women in London and we want to spread our services in every London borough and soon in all parts of the UK.
